About The 5th AFME International Conference 2026

Echoes of the Anthropocene: Rethinking Music Education in an Era of Crisis

The Anthropocene represents an era of profound global transformation characterized by rapid technological advances, shifting social structures, and evolving cultural dynamics. In response to these unprecedented changes, music education faces an imperative to redefine its purpose, methodologies, and societal contributions

Marking the 10th anniversary of the Association for Future Music Education(AFME) in February 2026, our 5th International Conference explores music education’s renewed roles and expanded responsibilities in contemporary contexts. Under the theme "Echoes of the Anthropocene: Rethinking Music Education in an Era of Crisis," this conference aims to critically examine how music education can meaningfully engage with complex societal transitions, cultivate deeper human connections, and harness new technological opportunities to enhance educational practices.

Participants will engage with diverse themes, including reimagining pedagogical frameworks, integrating digital innovations, fostering inclusive cultural practices, and promoting social cohesion through music education. This event invites dialogue and collaboration on how music education can adapt proactively, nurturing learners who are reflective, culturally aware, and creatively equipped for the challenges of our rapidly changing world

We warmly invite scholars, educators, and practitioners worldwide to join us in shaping a responsive and forward-looking music education community.
